I think it's a girl, judging by how many feathers it has and the comb is not red, just pink

I hope so. The comb is slightly pink but I just noticed the waddles when I took the picture earlier this morning that's why I was getting more concerned.

Is my 5 week old a boy or girl? It always seems like the nicest babies end up being roosters and I fear this one is going that direction. Can anyone help me out. These pictures are all of the same chick.

I was thinking girl till I looked at this one those wattles are really starting to show

I'm posting again in a week. I will be selling my boys once I figure out which ones are actually boys. Oddly enough, one of my silkies is very pink in the comb at 5 weeks so I'm pretty sure that's in my list. I was just really wanting this little bugger to stay with me I guess we will see

CONGRATS!!!

Thanks. So far 14 hatched - 1 preemie didn't make it past about 48 hours. Another I helped hatch I screwed up & failed to cover the bowl I was using for heated water & it managed to climb into it. The sides are like 4 inches. There was another with it so must've climbed onto it or something. It seemed weak too.

I have 12 of 14 alive. My stepmom has 3 of them. Lots of Cochin mix I think. Lot of black chicks. I think I might have fair amount of crevecoeur babies too. Pics are yet to come. Have 2 Americana mixes with feathered feet! Chubby things so thinking Cochin Daddy.

I've got to figure out why the majority are black. I've got a mix of breeds & variety of colors for Cochin. Have to copy & paste a list. 31 total with 11 males possible.

Whelp... I have mites/lice on my babies.. any advice and best methods to get rid of them.

Beekissed in her gnarly bunch blog head a great method. If I remember right she bathed them then coated in nustock, it's in the horse aisle, then repeated-couple days between baths I think.

I didn't have that so I used Vaseline. Took a few rounds & washing it out is a pain. Treat the whole bird or they'll migrate. I made that mistake.

Concept is drown & get off then the nustock smothers them. She may have a diy version now. Google gnarly bunch & should find the blog. She has great info!
