Yes my hen is a Bantam.

Trust me I know its scary. search it on the forum and see what others have done and what makes you feel most secure.

Be sure the medication goes inside the skin. I know once I thought it penetrated and I just squirted it all over her neck. Make sure you don't accidently puncture yourself. Once you get him calm (wrapped in a towel) seperate the feathers so you can see skin.

When I would give injections sometimes she never even moved , other times, you would have thought she was headed for the frying pan she made such a fuss. LOL

I chickened out of doing the tylan today (if you don't mind the pun). But, if what muscadine suggested doesn't do the trick, I'll definitely do it. I'm glad yours is a bantam. Now I know how much and how often thanks to you!

I would take a q-tip and soak it in coffee and just rub back and forth under her eye and she really liked that. maybe if I would have pressed a little harder I would have been able to avoid shots, That makes sense though considering the sinus area.

Anything yet Birdlover? When I treated my bird I wraped her in a towel and gently pushed her eye. The infection came out rather easy I thought. I have to give the credit to Sunny_Side_Ups poultry group for figuring out how it happened because I was thinking some kind of disease too. Good luck and keep us posted.

I can't say his eye is any better after I tried to clean it out. However, I bought some Tylan 50 and gave him an injection this a.m. and am about to do it again. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, I can give an encouraging report tomorrow.

Okaaayyy, so I did something I was bound and determined not to do!! I was having a terrible time injecting him and I don't know that I EVER got any tylan in him. I know for sure I didn't this a.m. And his eye is just as bad. So, after work, I took him to our local exotic vets to ask them to show me how to give an injection properly. The vet said the needle was way bigger than the ones they use and that it would cause stress to the bird. She also said tylan isn't the antibiotic of choice - baytril is. I asked if I could buy some syringes and she said those could only be given with a prescription - drug stores too. She gently suggested I let the other vet look at him this evening and I gave in and agreed!!!! (The vet I spoke with wasn't actually working. I just happened to catch her at a computer). I HATE what it is going to cost me since he's not even mine (well...I guess he is til I find him a home) but I feel relieved to be letting the experts take over. So, guess I'll know more tonight. Thank you all for your wonderful support and encouragement throughout this ordeal.
