"Chunk" 5
"Oh my gosh, Estelle, we're not going to get anywhere if we just aimlessly walk around," Milla complained. I agreed, but I was so inspired by finding those notes from our friends that I didn't want to give up yet. Caly gave Milla the "come on, don't stomp down her hopes" look, thinking I didn't see. Well, if they thought we were hopeless, that was fine. I knew we'd find them.
We walked into a very dense part of the forest. I wasn't even sure if a normal food person could squeeze through the spaces between these trees. It seemed like a very monster-y place, but I doubted something so vicious and powerful could get through here. Looking up, my eyes widened. The trees seemed to go up forever, only small patches of sky broke through. That almost instantly made this creepier. I couldn't help shivering when I thought of how this reminded me of a prison. Milla and Caly were both scared too, as they were huddling against me. We kept on walking, silently. I had no clue why we didn't turn around, but it almost seemed as if something was pulling us to the center. After another mile or so, sunlight started to seep in through the spaces between the tree trunks. It almost seemed as if there were a magnet in my stomach, and it was pulling me toward the sunlight. "Guys..." My heart was beating wildly. I didn't like this, I didn't want to go there. Milla and Caly looked at me with a crazed look in their eyes. "Let's just go, Essie," Caly hummed roboticly. "What do we have to lose?" Milla said hypnotically. "Milla, last week you made fun of Demond for saying that! What's wrong with you?" I screamed and ran away. Even though I was running away, the light came closer, until it swallowed me. I screamed with terror as Milla and Caly watched, laughing.
I woke with a scream. "Jeez, Essie, what were you screaming about?" Milla looked at me funny. "Wait, what?" I had no clue what was going on. Caly squeezed my shoulder. "It was just a dream," She said in her soothing, motherly voice. "What the heck! I don't remember falling asleep!" I was more confused than I'd ever been. "You don't? You just collapsed over here five minutes ago," Milla reported. Hmm. Whatever... I didn't sleep very well last night, maybe that had just come back to me.
Suddenly, a vicious snarl sliced through the air, and my thoughts. We looked up into the tree in front of us to a great monster. She was covered in blood, with a catlike body and teeth and claws like razors. "Mountain lion..." Caly breathed. Then, from behind it, sunlight glowed through the branches.
Sorry, this one was short, dramatic, and drippy....
I need to work on this. It doesn't even have much of a plot. Anyway, hope you like it....
