"Chunk" 8

I dragged my feet across the ground, trying to rub the tiredness out of my eyes. Milla yawned loudly, for the fifth time in the past few minutes. Caly's eyelids fluttered. We walked for several minutes before she collapsed. We pulled her into a small abandoned fox den that seemed safe enough. It had obviously been abandoned for years. Milla woke Caly with a sharp peck to the head. "Um, OUCH!!! What the heck, Milla?" Caly glared, now wide-awake. "Feeling hostile, are we, Milla?" I smiled. Milla only smirked, and turned her head away. She was probably just getting her revenge for something Caly had done or said back when we were little chicks in the brooder.

"Um, I think it's time to go to bed," I said, a little sheepishly, because I was the one who had pushed us so far. "NOW you say so! I think three hours ago was the right time!" Milla complained, but she was obviously grateful. Caly smiled, and closed her eyes, swaying on the spot. "Caly, I'd suggest laying down before you fall asleep," I laughed. "Hmm... 'Nite," Were the last words she said before she plopped down, fluffed out her feathers around her, and closed her eyes. Milla and I followed her lead, and snuggled up to sleep.

After lots of peaceful hours of sleep, my eyes couldn't stay closed for any longer. I opened them, and stretched, then heard something weird. "Figures," I muttered under my breath. Another obstacle to get through. I shook Milla and Caly awake, and we all snuggled up together in a corner. I was getting really worried about the snuffling, whispering voices that I was about to go outside and check it out when I heard an unmistakable voice. I screamed with glee and ran outside. "Are you INSANE?!?!" Milla screamed at my back, but I wouldn't be stopped. "JAE!!!!!" I screamed as I jumped at the beautiful Delaware rooster. Milla and Caly screamed gleefully and ran outside, tackling Lena and Micia with hugs. I was crying I was so happy. All of my friends were back! Jae's head was over my shoulder in a hug, but I felt his tears plop onto my feathers. I hugged Micia and Lena too, and all of us were crying. The Banties were united again! I felt like I could do anything.



Not a very good ending for this chapter

"Chunk" 9

We were all shivering, huddled up in the corner of the fox den. "So, guys, I think it's about time you actually tell us what happened," Milla suggested, causing us all to smile. "Uh... It's kind of a long story," Jae fumbled, obviously not wanting to tell everyone. He probably wasn't "heroic" enough. Roosters can be such snobs.

"Your point is...? You know that we want to know," I gave him the look. "Okay..." He sighed, then took a breath. "As you probably know, I spurred the monster, and she attacked me, Lena, and Micia. She grabbed us all in her mouth and ran. She was biting down so hard that our legs were all covered in blood. We whispered and made a plan to get away. Lena grabbed a rock in her beak when the monster slowed down. After she was running fast again, Lena threw it up, and it fell and smacked the monster's back, and cut her pretty bad. I guess it was a pretty sharp rock," Jae winked at Lena. "Or a great thrower," She laughed. "Yeah, right. Anyway, she turned around, and ran into a tree head-on," I cut Jae off. "Stupid monster!" I laughed. "She did the same thing with us!" We all took a minute to laugh, then Jae started his tale again. " We were able to get away, and we found a shelter nearby, a cave. We stayed there a while, just coming out to forage and drink. Our legs had healed by then, and we set out to look for you. We seriously walked through rain, and sleet, almost daily, just for you guys," He winked at us. "We never ran into rain or sleet," Milla was clearly confused. Caly and I nodded our heads in unison, furrowing our brows. "Hmm... Anyway, that's not really the point, I guess. We walked for several days, faced bears, and other deadly, blood thirsty stuff," Jae exaggerated. I rolled my eye, but I had a grin on my face. Jae made me laugh. "One day, we heard voices in a fox den. We spent a while debating it, but we eventually just decided to take the chance of foxes or something to see if it was you guys. We just stood outside, talking loud, and hoped that you'd run out. Then..." He turned his head to wipe away a tear without us seeing. "Well, you know."

Caly, the motherly, mature one of our "double trio", as we called it, cut in to save Jae's pride. "I think we're all tired now. We've had a long day," She patted Jae's back, and he sat up straighter. We all snuggled up to go to bed. Jae was pressed u[ against me, as we were all freezing. "I'm really glad you're back, Jae," I mumbled as I drifted off to sleep. "Me too, Essie. Sweet dreams, sweetheart," He smiled.

Finally got some time to myself so I could write this! Hope it's okay!

Sorry, I'm such a procrastinator on the weekends that I didn't get a chance to actually illistrate... It just looks to blank without a picture!

Anyway, with some Picnik and Befunky magic, I created a weird picture of two of my girls...

Soon, I'll get better ones!
