Songster
I came outside and caught one of my Australorp hens sitting in the grass and she seemed to be dozing. I went to check on her and I noticed she was missing feathers on her belly. She has some poop stuck to her fluffy butt feathers. I soaked her in some warm water with Epsom salt and checked to see if I felt for an egg in case she was egg bound. I didnt feel anything. I read articles on vent fleet but she didnt seem to have a smell or discharge. She did have a piece of soft shell fall off on the Epsom soak and I am pretty sure she is the same girl that left a soft shelled egg on the roosting board last night. The coloring of her comb is good and the area around her vent is pink but not red. I tried snapping a picture but she wants nothing to do with me after the soak. I also checked for any bugs on her and didnt find anything. No one else in the flock seems to be having this issue. I did put some A&D ointment on the exposed skin of her belly and the skin under her vent just to keep it from getting irritated. Her butt feathers look worse for wear now because of the ointment but they were normal and fluffy before the bath and only a little bit of poop on them. Anything else I should do ir check for at this point?
