So I was wondering about the chicks that have Welsummer in them. Is this something that can be bred out with carefull breeding is it just something you shouldn't even try to work with. I was trying to find some chicks that can be shipped and they seem hard to find. I found a web sight that ships them and sells them for $3 each. Then I saw a picture of the chicks. Out of the 4 I could see all of them had the "V"s on them. What do ya'll think?

I had some great luck last night. I needed to move my 3 week old barnevelder chicks out of the box they were in because they were getting too big for the space, so rather than build a new pen...I figured I would try to put them in with the 5 week old ameraucana and 4 week old bourbon red poults. Complete success! There were no problems whatsoever! I am very happy cause this will keep costs down a little!

I bought eggs from someone on here already and none hatched. It is now getting to the point that it is getting to hot in the house (we don't have AC, it is 105 outside) to keep the temps in the incubator stable. I could if I really watched the incubator, but with the cost of eggs and shipping I don't really want to chance it with my limited funds.

I have to agree - the hens on their site look nice, but the chicks look a bit Welsummer-ish. The ones I hatched did not look quite like that - although I am by no means a Barnie expert and chicks may vary from line to line as I'm sure they do.
