Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Nice Trisha, those girls look nice. I love the dark head and hackles contrast with the smokey blue on the body. I hope mine look that nice when they grow up. I have a bunch of blue project chicks right now but they are in that first feather stage where its realy hard to tell what will come next. The chicks look like regular double laced barnies until they grow first primaries then I see the blue coming in. I will be setting my first F2 silvers next week. Oh and I am pleasantly surprised by the eggs of the F1 they are already looking Barnie.

Keep the pictures coming I enjoy watching the project.

Thanks everyone, I'm so happy with them...of course I'm picky so I still see things I want to keep improving. I have about 8 more blue chicks in the brooder. It's like Andy says...sometimes it's hard to tell if they are blue or not until they feather out. I also have more "blue" eggs in the bator and want to set or have hens set even more eggs before it get's too hot. I'm actually hoping some of my hens go broody

that way I don't have to brood so many chicks. Although I know that wish is going to come back and "bite me" because they'll probably all want to go broody at the same time, LOL.

Andy, I would love to see pics of your projects when you get to a point you want to share pictures. It'll be nice to have other sources and "un-related" lines of blues and silvers to work with in the future.

Hi everyone... A month ago I hatched out 9 Barnevelder chicks and they are doing great and growing fast. I would like to know if you can sex them by the

feathers coming in or there tails yet? 2 have longer tails and longer saddle feathers and and two are defiantly hen feathering the rest are a mix of the others. anyone having info or pictures I would be grateful

Hi! Congratulations! Barnies are the da' bomb! You will love them! How old are they and do you have photos?

Ok, What are Cornvelders and what are the Silvers? Sounds so intriguing I want to know. I get my first batch of Barnvelder chicks from Cackle tomorrow, we'll see how they turn out. I am getting KVs in May and am so excited about those!

Oh, Silvers like they have in Europe. How are you guys going about making those? That is one of the projects I had in mind when I get mine. I wasn't sure if I should breed to SLWyandottes or all white birds
