He is looking good I love his head, short beak and nice wide breast too. Color wise he has pretty good color.

Here's some up and coming prospects from my blue project
Favorite blue cockerel so far. He's moulting his wing feathers, so they're not being held right. I'm really liking this boy and I hope he continues to grow out well.

One of my favorite blue pullets. Her sisters have better lacing, but she has the best body type and loves to be picked up.


Very dark blue cockerel. The pic is a little dark, but he's the darkest so far.The red he does have is very dark mahogany colored. I don't like the white fluff in his tail, but he's still very young and I'm going to see how "bad" the fluff is after he finally gets his tail in.

My Johan Rooster (3 months old) is very listless today. Didn't want the beet greens which he usually loves, didn't want the scratch which he usually calls the hen to come eat. Just went back in his coop, up on the roost and settled down. What can I do to help him??

. All of mine were acting funny yesterday, would not come out of the coop but I think that was because of the heat.

Bring him indoors. It may be too many days in a row of high heat. Let him cool off for a couple of days. If he has a best little buddy bring that one in too so he does not get stressed from being alone. I have had to do that off and on with my birds this summer and it seems to help.
I also had a few birds about the same age as yours that would get listless, not eat, not do anything for a few days and then get better. not sure what that was about but since nobody died I figure that it was just an immunity thing to some bug or another. I put them on medicated feed just in case.

Hi all... glad I found this thread. I am a new egg as they say... just happen to have some barneveldors in my starting flock and think they are very nice birds. In my web browsing I found there was a local barneveldor breeder in Easton, Ct... Johan van Achterberg of Hidden Meadow Farm... I thought it would be fun to buy some of his eggs and hatch them out on my own which I did and now have 3 little veldors underfoot in the chicken yard... They are in some kind of funky molt stage and look pretty ridiculous right now so I don't have any pictures... but two are definitely roosters and of course, I do not want to keep them... so before they go to freezer camp, as they say, I am offering them for free to anyone interested.

I do not know how well known Mr van Achterberg was or his farm Hidden Meadow... but he has crossed the rainbow bridge as they say and I am not sure how long his wife will keep up the chicken end of the business... these are birds from his line so if they are of value to anyone's breeding program I am happy to pass them along. I would definitely be interested...I bought some Barnevelder eggs online last year, and got two lovely hens....unfortunately, that's not her chick, but she's a good broody! If no one closer claims them, let me know...I'll take a road trip when the trees start turning ;~)

awwwe... such a good girl. I would love to have a broody hen. Have not gotten to that point... mine are all still young and just getting established. I have had some interest but so far conversations involve shipping... not impossible. I can hold on to them for awhile for you if you can pick them up... my barneveldor hen is one of my favorites... this is a great breed. I have some partridge rocks as well but I do not think they are as pretty... and I am not as attached to them... don't know why.
