Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Mine came, indirectly, from a breeder in TX. They are...ummmm.....15 weeks old now, so I don't really know yet how good their quality will be once they grow up. I'm thinking about buying some additional eggs from the lines of Hidden Meadow Farms, but I haven't really decided yet.

Are you looking for some?

I am looking at something other than the Marans and they were so beautiful! I am still thinking about getting some later. I have to deal with getting ready for our next shipment of chicks in March. This site is too addicting !!!

If you're just looking for a nice dark egg layer, I personally would go with Welsummers. They're probably going to give you darker eggs, with a higher rate of lay, and they're a lot easier to find. OTOH if you like a challenge, barnies may suit you too.

I am pleased to see the interest in the Barnevelders, which I have yet to own, but have read alot about and am very interested in. This is going to be a good thread! What a beautiful bird and egg. It seems like there can be a big difference between the "standard" and what peoples birds look like though? They seem different again than what I've seen at the Poultry shows? Working together will be awesome!

I am in the middle of arrangements for some chicks in April, so I dont have mine yet? They'll be straight run, so who knows?? They certainly are hard to get ahold of?

I did have the option of getting some from a lady getting them from a hatchery. I think I'll skip that. I think they were from Ideal.
