Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Those two babies are adorable. We didn't pick up ours until they were over a week old. But they were still so cute. Hopefully more will hatch in the next couple of days for you. I think we had a late one...he isn.t getting his shoulder feathers yet. But the others have had them about a week.

I just finished a hatch yesterday and it maybe my last for awhile unless a hen goes broody. I'm running out of room for chicks, LOL. I don't even know how many chicks I have yet. I think there are between 35 and 40 chicks, but I haven't been able to count them yet. They are a mix of pure barnies and my two project lines. The pures have green leg bands.

Boys front and center with light breast down and there is a girl off to the right with the darker breast. There still are some inbetweens that fool me. The boy in the front standing tall is already showing typical boy stance at just a day-old

Hi Jen,
They are F2 Blue-laced Barnevelder project chicks and F3 Cornevelder project chicks. It's hard to tell them apart from pure Barnevedlers as day-olds. But, the ones that are blue start showing grey marked wing feathers in a few days. I hatched the pure barnies out in containers to keep them seperate and they have green leg bands.

Okay, I am hopping on this one. I had my first batch of 12 eggs that had a hatch date of 03/28/11, only one hatched. I put in the second set of 12 on 04/01/11. After candling last night I am down to 6 and one of them looks really different than the rest. I am new to Barnies, but after researching here and there the past 2 years, I decided this was the bird for me. So, my question, anyone around the Austin, TX area? I am not liking the shipping thing very much, too much can happened. Glad to find this thread. I have only read 3 of the 30 pages of post, but will get caught up soon.

PS Jen F, when did you set your eggs? Last we chatted you had not received them yet.

Also, here is a pic of the only one that hatched from the first set, from what I am reading it is a boy, what do you think? I have always referred to him as a boy, we named him Charlie, that way if he turns out to be a she, it still works. Since he was an only child we bought him a little girl friend, to bad there are no Barnie chicks available were I am as quick as I needed one.
