Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Looking for bantam Banrney chicks or eggs. i live in NW Iowa. Had a pr and recently lost the female and the male needs some company. Can anyone help me out?
Oh, double laced.
Thanks

I candled my Barnie eggs last night and 8 of them were moving around in the shells! It was fun to see and very encouraging! Ten more days until hatch day...getting exciting!

Thank You Royce

Yes the blue pullet won the AOV and the blue cockerel RV. My standard laced won the Continental class with BB and RB, very pleased with my first shoot out of the gate. More importantly I just want to get this wonderful breed back in the spotlight and work on getting the blue accepted.

Best Regards
Chad

Congratulations!

I'm new to barnevelders and was just wondering is there single lace and double lace barnevelders or just double lace

thanks
I have always wondered this also. The first Barny's i ever got were not the lovely double lace we see mostly. Of course there have been many who have crossed Barnys with Welsummers to try to get the darker colored eggs back. ( Many Show Quality stock have lighter egg coloration). Sandhill advertises both and the description seems partridgelike....????? eliz

My hatchery stock was obviously crossed with Welsummers as could be told by the color of the heads when chicks. Some had Barny Brown head and the others had the yellow Welsummer V. I have read that this was done to produce hardier stock and retain the dark egg color. I gave them all to a friend (they were from Cackle, i think) and they are double laced but the lacing is VERY thick. Still pretty birds, and they lay barny colored eggs.

Pickledchicken - I think I was *just* asking on the TVPC's FB page who bred the Barnevelder!!!! I'm a newbie but I've fallen in love w/ the breed and I'd really love to get into showing them and *maybe* breeding them when I know more about how to breed intelligently. Hopefully I'll be able to meet you at the next show! Oh and congratulations!

I was just reading a very old thread on here about forming a Barnevelder Club. Did anything ever happen about that? It seems not but it still sounds like such a good idea to me.

Does anyone here have experience with Meyer Hatcheries Barnevelders? I have two that are now about 7 wks now. One is much bigger than the other. And darker too. They are both supposed to be female but I have my doubts. I wish I had a camera darn it!
Is it normal for females to have a greenish sheen in their feathers?

I have this greenish sheen also. for some reason I have been having trouble getting my barnevelders going. I can keep hens but my roos keep dieing. ive tried them as chicks, and adult birds. I have bought from different local farms and still no luck. I see some people are crossing them with welsummer is this recommended? I do have a welsummer that is dark in the neck that I would like to try if so. would like any input I can get. also if you have good to show quality stock and eggs for sale I may be interested. especially if you have a high hatch/live rate.

I keep my birds in pens of trios and pairs. each pen has a light for warmth. they are typically bedded with 2-3 inches of pine. I do make them reach out of their pen to eat and drink to help keep bedding clean. the barn itself that they are in is not heated but water typically doesn't freeze over 10 times a year. maybe this is to cold?

I love the color of the double laced hens, and would love to have some show quality rugged stock. I am willing to go to extreme lengths to get it - just need pointed in the right direction to get it.
