Hi Cheryl

Sally is looking very pretty. It looks like she's coloring up in the comb and wattles a bit. I bet she'll start laying soon. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. The neighbor's dogs attacked my flock and I have two wounded pullets

Hello Barnevelder Lovers

I just wanted to clear up some speculations on my Barnevlders (Genetics)
jumpy.gif

I have never ever ever...ever crossed Welsumers in my breed line of Barnevelders.

I DO NOT EVEN Owen or ever have owned Welsummers.

Is it possible that one of my chickens was bought with it in them? possible?
But I have made sure that the chickens I have are of high value (Phenotypes)

I bought eggs from you this summer. I set 12 eggs, 10 hatched and I got 2 roos and 8 hens. So exciting. I did get one hen with a light chest which I culled but the rest are gorgeous. I'm sure it is possible because of the light chest a few of the birds were bought with Welsummer in them. All we can do is cull any that are off. I think you have beautiful birds. I love the roos. The first Barnie roos I've had that have some lacing.

Yep, it's possible - because Welsummers were used in the creation of Barnevelders.

God Bless,

....I would have to agree...And would add that if you haven't hatch at least 100 of your own eggs to insure that they, in fact, hatch true, to the standard, then you really have No Idea of the genetics of your own lines. Sadly some people are more than happy to advertise and sell their "supposed" pure lines without really researching the genetics of their birds themselves.
