Good luck with your hatch Kim!

May you get lots of pullets!

And my "helper" quit on me before I could get pics of your barnie chick. I think it's a boy though, don't know how that happened when it has a PINK band on it's leg.

Are Barnies somewhat sexable by color upon birth? I have some from Trisha in the 'bator due next weekend. Developing nicely...

Or does it differ from line to line?

Trisha told me girls have more of a taupe colored chest and boys have a white chest. I still had a hard time trying to figure it out.

Thanks.
How old are your yours now and have you figured it out yet? If so, what was the defining clue and how old were they when it was clear?

I still have a couple "iffy" ones. See my pictures in post #572 (mediazeal's stock) and #573 (Trisha's stock) above. But at 4 1/2 weeks, I have an idea of who are pullets and who are cockerals.

I agree Pinkchick. They are so sweet and calm. They are the calmest chicks we have had and we can't wait to watch them grow up. We have 4 RIR hens that are super friendly too so it will be great to have more. My daughter is having so much fun.
I will have to post some pictures on here as they grow. So far, I think we might have two roosters and four hens. We will be happy to have them no matter roo or hen.

Here are the 2 chicks that have hatched from my eggs from Johan so far. Hatch day was 2 days ago and I have no more pips, the male in this photo hatched yesterday. Johan and I were talking yesterday about how they like to take their sweet time showing their faces...LOL when I asked Johan if them taking their sweet time was normal....his sweet response was...." Yes they do take their time, leave them in the 'bator for a few more days, besides what's the rush?" I love his gentle laid back personality.....no wonder his birds are just as sweet, spending all that time with Johan...they would just have to be.

Girl on the left and boy on the right. TLS~ You are going to be shocked my friend I think that I have it right this time.....creamy white chest means male and the gray taupy chest is female right? LOL!

I just put 6 Barnies in lockdown this morning (my first try at hatching). I am both extremely excited to see them hatch and extremely nervous that they won't hatch at all because I might have done something wrong!! Johan eggs being shipped out around the 20th so hoping I get chicks hatched from both batches. Glad to know I shouldn't worry if they take their sweet time coming out.
