well I can't find any Poly visol of any sort in the entire town of Hinesville, ga. I didn't see Corrid in tractor supply... I did grab a bag of reg. chick starter medicated and a bag of chick grit and Vet Rx for poultry. I don't know what that is even for but I grabbed it anyway at this point. Still alive. Had one normal poop that was both light and dark, with a medium consistency. I will work on giving some more water with the Nutra drench, electrolyte and probiotic mix. I will then head to a DIFFERENT town and try the stores there

Some pharmacies keep their PVS behind the counter.

Vet rx is vick's vapor rub and useless really IMO.

I wouldn't be searching for the baby vitamins with poultry nutri drench on hand.

I would keep the chick hydrated as suggested by the vet. You really are doing all you can as far as I can tell!

The medicated chick starter will have a lower dose of the amprolium.

It's always good to ask someone that works there if they know where something is. They often do. But the vet should be checking for worms or cocci tomorrow and you weren't going to treat today anyways. I would at least call them and ask if they carry it before driving to another town, if you didn't already ask them.

At least the broccoli was a hit with the other chicks... poor Junebug just tries and her head just ducks between her legs until she wants to tilt over. I have apple cider vinegar now. Now to read as to what to do with it...

I did find some poly visol with no iron and I came home and mixed it in with the water that also had the nutra drench and gave her some. As soon as I got her to drink some I got a call that the person that was suppose to do the barn work at the stable was sick and OMG it is 5:00 and almost dark and no one bothered to tell me. So I had to go to work and do stalls and feed horses. I just got back and gave her some more. Its easier to get her to drink from the eye dropper but no real change. She just wants to put her head between her ankles. She WANTS to eat but can't seem to. Its like when she tries, she misses and her head just keeps going further between her legs. I still have the vet appointment for 9am but if NO ONE shows up at the stable tomorrow, I will have to cancel it. Most likely, I will go to the vet and when I get back to the stable, find out he never came in.... (this person won't pick up a phone when I call...) Hoping I can get to the vet though and hoping I have someone feeding horses in the morning....

You're doing all you can for her.

Just remember, with 2wk olds, they just need a very small amount of vitamins, so careful how much PND and Poly Vi Sol you give - it is possible to overdose on vitamins.

Keep her warm. If she is wanting to eat try a wet mash made of chick starter and wipe a little on her beak - see if she will take it in. But hydration is most important.

I'm glad your other chicks like the Broccoli. Do they have a source of chick sized grit - preferably crushed granite in the brooder?

i grabbed chick grit also at tractor supply. Has anyone ever CURED wry neck if that is what it is? I only read horror stories and none ever end well. I had a wry neck hen 2 years ago, she never got better, she only had to learn to deal with her disability. It took her from her as a spring chick until Fall to learn how to feed and water herself. I had to do that for her each day all day. I got her after she had wry neck for a few days, I had HOPES since this started today I could catch it but now that I have had to wait until tomorrow morning for the vet... now I am not sure. At first when this started this morning I thought she may be ill but it looks more and more like wry neck... She was flying all over her pen last night. Its an indoor rabbit hutch with the lower half being plastic walled (which means they can barely look over). I wonder if she flew into the bars and got hung up? Maybe this is an injury? Tomorrow morning can not come soon enough for me...

I don't know if "cured" would be the right word, but many have successfully treated Wry Neck .

If she was that active, flying around and there was a place where she could have gotten injured - that's a real possibility of the cause of her symptoms. Wry Neck is a neurological symptom of several conditions like vitamin deficiency, injury to the head/neck and certain diseases like Marek's, Newcastles.

I'm very sorry she is not doing well. I hope you get some answers at the vet today - please let us know what happens.

I agree I have seen birds LIVE with their wry neck... but no not cured.

It commendable that you took the time to help your previous one recover. And more than that you are willing to seek vet help.

For ME... I would likely cull before I could commit several months to hand feeding and watering a bird. I simply don't have the time or energy to give for the handicapped. And I don't want weakness inviting illness or disease to live among my flock. Those birds will be more susceptible to parasites and other things. It wouldn't be fair for either one of us, including my other animals and family. Making those hard decisions DOES allow for us to move forward and enjoy the birds we can.

Stinks that your stable worker is being unreliable. That is an issue in our area as well.
