I have heard that there are signs like the shape of the white dot...leg color...feather colors... could someone summarize? With pictures would be great.

Here are a two week old brother and sister.

Brother on ground, sister on sawhorse:



Later, at 6 weeks of age, you see the brother is much lighter, with red comb and wattles:

As a very general rule, females should be overall more darker. Darker wash on the legs, more dark fuzz on the head (resulting in a smaller and more compact white dot), darker overall coloration, etc. This is harder to detect when they are only days old, but becomes more and more apparent as they age.

Extremely poor breeding practices by hatchery can skew these features, however. Fortunately it's not terribly common that you can't use the above generalizations.
