Our barred rock is nearly 5 weeks old and I am still not 100% sure if its a hen or a roo, we really want a hen. Would love to know what you guys think.

Going off of the comb I believe it’s a male. It doesn’t look like a pure Barred Rock to me though. The pattern is too irregular for that.
I figured it was a mix because I saw a clip on youtube where they were showing their easter egger and it looked very similar. I have put the link below and its 45 seconds in.

It’s also got pinkish legs instead of yellow. I think it’s a Cuckoo Marans and not a Barred Rock. Could still be a mix though too.
yeah kind off hard to tell, I am just hoping it turns out to be a hen otherwise my daughter will be very sad to see it go.

Yeah definitely! But Barred Rocks should have yellow legs so I don’t think it is one. I think it’s either a CM or a CM mix. But who knows. It’s looking a little rooster ish but still too young to be sure. Hens can have bigger combs too so yeah. Hopefully it’ll be a girl.

We are hoping *fingers crossed

With BR, the females have darker feathers and legs. Here the feathers say female, but the legs don't. I feel like I need to know the breed 100% to judge the comb, too. Where did they come from?
