Barred Rock question...

I raised 4 chicks this spring guaranteed to be pullets. Two were roosters. They started crowing before the combs were really large...sort of like an adolesent with a cracking voice.

Speckledhen, what's your opinion on this one? Cockerel or pullet? Comb gets more pink every day...but still not certain since I am new to this game

Hi. Thank you for replying!!! I kind of thought he was looking a little boyish to me. How good are you about other breeds?

I have a mystery chick that is looking boyish to me as well (he grew a comb in 1 week). He is supposed to be some Ameracauna Xbreed (possibly BR, Speckled Sussex, or Black SxL), but doesn't have green legs or muffs. He's chipmunky striped on back with pretty clean stripes. AND he has no tail...? He is 4.5 weeks old and ALMOST has the beginnings of little wanna-be tail fluffs. He also stands very erect, especially when I get my hands in there & start messing with them. He is the guy in the front of the last pic I posted previously. Here is a couple more for you.

That last one is a baby rooster, not sure about the other with similar pattern, and it may be a tad early. The other BR in the pic with it is a pullet.

Sorry...no coffee yet. I am confused

Which last one is a baby rooster. The BR I asked about in the first post or the chick from the second post? There is only one I am asking about in 2nd post - the brown & black striped one.

Also, the pic that has the brown/black striped one with the BR in it...that's the same BR from the 1st post about the BR cockerel.

I'll get coffee right now & clear the fog away...

YES! That is the one! Sorry, I hadn't fully woken up yet, I apologize.

So, he is a HE. AND the little BR I asked about is a HE. So between them both, they have to share 6 pullets...hmm, that may not be a good idea. What do you think? Do I need to buy more chicks???

All I can think is that a 6:2 ratio will end up in nothing but fights.

Thanks again!
