Barred rock rooster or something else???

Agree he only has one barring gene. No matter what you breed him to you can't get sex link chicks---that never works with a barred rooster.

edit, just cause I know some smart alek is going to come along and say this...I guess with something like a Rhodebar rooster (barred) you could make a red sex link if you put him over a silver hen, but the sex linkage would be based on red/silver, not the barring like with a black sex link. So, amended to say you can't use a black barred rooster to get sex link chicks.

Lol. Thanks guys. I'm not trying gir sexlink chicks. I'm more concerned with getting all blsck chicks. I like variety. So if he gives me a couple of barred hens I'll be happy.

You would have to breed him to barred hens to get barred hens. In order for a chicken to be barred, they have to have two copies of the barred genes. He can't pass two genes, those genes must come from the mother.
