Are BR's known to be a sweet-natured bird? I have BR's, GC's, RIR's, and TT's. My BR's are by far my fave when it comes to friendliness and ease of handling. My BR cockerels are even nicer than any of my pullets of the the other breeds.

mine's a real sweetie too

we've got 1 (had 2) that are just terrible! will attack us, and we ended up getting rid of the one because the red chickens would hide in the weeds all day, as he would beat them up when they came out.

after getting rid of the one, all the chickens are flocking together again, however, we still have to watch the remaining rooster so he doesn't sneak up on us.

ymmv, but ours are horrible (they're actually my dad's, but i'm over to his house just as much as i am at my own home)

I have one BR hen. I got her from the feedstore, who get's their chickens from Ideal. I really like her. She is very friendly and very chatty, never stops clucking. She's a really good layer and I also like that she almost always gives me a lovely spotted egg.

In my rainbow layers pack from McMurray back in '08, I got about 5 Barred Rocks.

All of them were she devils. I rehomed all of them.

I had one from Cackle that was the sweetest Barred Rock I'd ever owned... I sold her to someone special because they wanted a sweet gentle hen.

I hatched out two heritage BRs from Kathyinmo and not only are they beautiful, they are also sweet. Shame both of them are ROOS!
... but I hear they are delicious.

My experience with barred rocks.

My Rose is definitely the top dog of our three and recently has become quite mean to our SLW. She will peck her for no reason, just to show who's boss. Towards me it's a toss up between my Buff Orpington and the Rock for who is friendlier. Both climb into may lap the moment I sit down, with poor Pearl (SLW) looking on from a few feet away so as not to get pecked.

Our Rooster Oscar Goldman is only 8 months old. We got him shortly after our previous Roo John

son was killed by a bear about 3 months ago and Ill trll ya without any training he is one of the most friendly character of a chicken i Have owned. The girls use to bully him so he would wait on the arm of the patio chair on the deck every night away from the chicken house and wait for us. He jump into our lap climb up on shoulders or my head. He'd sleep right in the house in Ernies dog bed in front of the tv with us... it was quite a sight!

Now with addition of more hens he has taken his place as Boss. Tables have turned and all my hens worship him lol he is still a rookie in his rooster afairs and despite his air-head approach he still looks pretty cool. We only hope he stays our friend and no mean on us.
