whoa nellie... anyone hear an echo?

I have 3 BRs, one named Pilgrim, the other two... we'll see.

so far the BRs are the first to:
peck my eye
peck my glasses
peck a scab on my leg 'till it bled
peck my toes
peck my toenails
pull out all their white chick fluff
flap their wings around in annoyance when the fattie americaunas take the favorite roosting spots
jump to the highest perches
jump on my shoulder
scratch my neck to the point of bleeding
venture 2 inches out of the coop
eat weeds
eat grass
perch on my riding mower
perch on me on my riding mower
scratch my sandals
scratch my toes inside my flip-flops
and lastly...
cluck loud enough on a windy night that I carry her inside to sleep in my bathroom sink instead of outside with the other hens.

We have 1 Barred rock, she is sweet but shy. She lost her friend a few weeks ago, so she is sad. Now she lives next to the big hens, she is only 5 weeks old. She loves tomatoes.

Whoa! Sorry- I don't know why that comment got posted so many times! What time do most barred rocks start laying?

My photographer husband took a lovely portrait of our two BRs that I thought I'd share - still nameless, but aren't they lovely?

I love my 10 BRs... they are the sweetest things. My BR rooster is very gentle and docile. Wasn't quite expecting him to turn out so good actually. My 9 BR girl are about 2 years old while my roo is only 1 year and a half...he's the only survivor of last years batch. I bought 10 chicks, 3 died of sickness and the other 7 WERE ALL ROOS!!! Most turned out very agressive and ended up in my freezer...but I kept my Vaca' boy! (I'm pretty sure that's Spanish for cow

) But that's his name!

Vaca when he was about...7 months old I guess. (Bad memory....lol)

My 2 barred rocks are great! Their names are Flannery Eau and Verity Silence, but we just call them Flannery and Verity. They definitely have personality, and stand out in many ways compared to my two EEs, one RIR, and one Australorp. They are always the first to investigate everything new, and are the least scared of my two dogs - they will look them right in the face and not move away when they approach them. These girls are still only 22 weeks, and haven't laid yet - I can't wait!!

I have a barred rock named Bella and she is by far my favorite. She loves to cuddle and have her neck petted. After about 2 minutes of petting she lays her head down on my shoulder and closes her eyes. Ahhhhh its chicken heaven!
