Barred Rock Thread

Like I said before .. her feathers are way too dark to be a BR.

Even if she has white feet ...

Ok, just looked up Marans and she looks like the picture wikipedia has, but she also looks like the barred rock. So now what? I mean it really don't matter to me what she is, I still love her. If any more people say she a Maran, I guess I'll have to unscribe from this thread and find one for Marens...LOL

I'm new to chickens and have one barred rock roo but I am totally impressed with the perfect feather pattern on the guy you want to show. I think mine looks more mottled and not so perfect. Good luck with him. Beautiful

I just love Barred Rocks too!

I only have one, but she's the most friendly hen in the world. And her name is Pepper too. (;

Here she is, running around in the garden. She's very photogenic!

And she quite loves the camera! She's always trying to get a bite out of it when I bring it out.

I love that chicky!

We are new to having chickens. Our flock was born the first week of April and we are eagerly awaiting our first eggs. We have 8 total....only 2 are Barred Rocks. Star is our female and Shimmer is the rooster. They are SO sweet compared to the rest of the chicks. We have 4 males/4 females. The Silver Wyandotts are the meanest...the female actually crows and tries to breed with the others...especially little Star. She is either very popular or the bottom of the pecking order!

One thing about her, since she was really young, when it's "bedtime", while they are out free ranging, she will come to us and fly up to our arm or shoulder. Now, with her getting chased by several chickens on a regular basis, if we are out there, she will run and then fly up and launch herself onto our HEAD! It's funny, but her nails are pretty sharp....I think I am going to give them a trim!
