Barred Rocks!!

Mine are pretty hefty for hatchery stock, weighing between 5 to 6 pounds. Hatchery sourced birds just aren't going to have the same sort of size and weight as birds from show quality lines.

What do your barred rock girls weigh? My pullet is 13 months old and only 4 pounds! She eats well and frequently, ranges several hours a day, lays lots of eggs on a regular schedule... Am I just impatient? Do they grow in their second year? Did I get a small one? Might she have a parasite?

I can't post pictures anymore, but she looks healthy and acts healthy. Thanks for any info!

My BR girls are all smaller...around 5 lbs at over a year old...but they're hatchery stock rather than breeder stock.

Fefe is about 4.5 weeks old now and my favorite in my bunch but definitely has more comb development and wattles starting to redden. I'm still suspicious she could be a he but I am hoping not!

The comb looks fairly yellow so I think Fefe may be a pullet, but can't say for sure.

My name is Jennifer and I am new to BYC, but have had chickens for about 15 years or so (on and off through the years). Currently have 11 chickens. Five, 3 1/2 year old hens outside (3 brown sex-links, 1 gold laced wyandotte and 1 silver phoenix). They are not producing much anymore, so I've added 6 new chicks, 3 barred rocks and 3 black sex-links) that are still in their teenage brooder. I got them when they were about 3-4 days old and now they are 12 weeks. I have fallen madly in love with the barred rocks. I love the black sex-links too, they have a little of the barred rock personality. I've read through this thread and finally couldn't stand it anymore and had to join BYC so I could show off my barred rocks. Amazing breed!

Im new too. Welcome.

Quick question....are Barred Rocks the same as Barred Plymouth rocks?
