Gotta love those mealies! I'm a few days from my first adult beetles in my colony. I'm thoroughly grossed out, to say the least.

At 3 weeks, does a pink comb = rooster?

it could but then you never know, a few more weeks should tell! you have other br's or just this one from the same hatch?

That is one of 20 barred rock chicks, all the same age.

could be then by 5 weeks that comb should be bigger and waddles should be forming I believe. are you looking for a roo? my breeder is amazing at sexing but his wife does the computer stuff he does the poultry LOL I just bring my birds to him and he sexes if he hasn't before I bought some.

And yes, mealies are gross! I could never breed them, it's all I can do to buy them. The things we do for our chickens, lol!

I'm hoping for 2 roosters! We ordered all pullets, hoping to get some accidental roosters

If I don't get my roosters, I'll see if I can find someone local to buy/trade from.

Fingers crossed remember as they age roos have pointed saddle feathers and females rounded, except silkies and seiberts sp. Females can develop larger Combs sometimes. But it's possible!

Looking into getting me some barred rocks. Can anyone tell me, are the hens very broody, and at what age do they start laying?

Too bad you're so far away- I have a lovely "accidental rooster" that needs a flock

They don't go broody often, they start laying between 20 - 35 Weeks. they are an awesome bird, we love our Sandy!
