Barred rocks?

I have 2 hens I were told were barred rocks. I got them completely different people. One is a 2 ish yr old hen and the other is about 8 months old. They look completely different! Can you tell me what you think they are or are they both barred rock with a different color pattern? the 8MO has a VERY brown colored head thats getting more so as she gets older.

I'm thinking either you have a BR cross and a pure BR or both are crosses, however only one carries the leakage (neck color) from the cross.

Yes he is an idiot. His poor birds were in cages stacked on top each other. The cages were dark and were maybe 3ftx4ft for a hen and rooster and many of the hens were over bred and bloody. Quite sad. It doesn't madder what breed they are as I don't plan on breeding(cant have a rooster and and just want eggs) but i was curios.
