WOW

The silkie mix I got was from a Marans egg and the skin was jet black.

I love the brown head on your's. Mine was marked like a BCM.

I can't wait to see what they look like when they feather out.

Are you only processing roos?

Cheryl - so glad to hear about the barn. (Finally caught up on 6 or 8 pages of thread.) I was at a class all day both days and missed the news. I'm available this week if you'd like a hand hauling stuff. I do have the pickup truck and would be glad to help. Let me know!

I have some friends on Grange Road in Bennett Valley (basically Southeast Santa Rosa) with 28 acres, who did all the legwork & surveying& permits for septics etc. to sell an 8 & a 10 acre portion so they could keep (most of) the family ranch,,,,, just in time for the market to crash. It has old oaks, a creek, and I would buy it if I had the $. It also has a built in chicken/goat sitter right next door. They had to pay $800 for permission for a new street for the driveway to the divided lots; I don't see a name on it yet so you might get to name your own street!

Last I heard it was listed with Coldwell Banker. I keep thinking of it when folks are talking about going in on a spot. Let me know if you want more info & I'll get a link.

Thanks,
Laurie

Finally (sorry-gone to Giants game all day yesterday

It
is now owner listed. I was told (by another parent at my son's school) it was worth 1.5 million... about 6 years ago.

It is really a beautiful place!

eta: just caught up on the last two days' posts; Yay for the barn, Cheryl!

The barn wouldn't have even happened if it wasn't for Steffanie and Tim. Wow they are some amazing people. I'll post before and after pictures in a bit but these incredible people helped (and did most of the work, it seemed) of cleaning everything out, big job, putting up wire what seemed like everywhere to keep the raccoons out, building roosting bars, it was a HUGE job. It took all day and I can't be more thankful. I was going to bring the two breeding stock flock over last night but after, feeding/cleaning/watering everyone else, I decided to wait till this morning. Steff & Tim my heartfelt thank you goes out to you, you know I couldn't have done it without you. Plus learning the country-boy construction tips!!

THE TODAY SHOW, my son just IM'd me (from Georgia) and said it aired back east already and this is the link to view it on the internet!! http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/42532056#42532056

Wolftracks, yes, I only plan to process roos. I haven't done a pullet yet (although my stupid dog has.) There should be a roo or two in that batch to see how they taste, but if it's the FBCM, I'll probably keep him for a while. I do love my Wyandotte roos, so they'll have to be nice to them.

Congratulations Cheryl... Awesome Today show spot. I think for most of the non chicken world, this show is indicative of the reaction to our fowlphilia. Many do not understand. Way to explain the addiction. Beautiful shots of the coops and birds. Good Work Cheryl.

Nice job Cheryl.

I don't like how they snicker at the thought of keeping chickens as pets as if we're all nutty or something.

Let's just go with the positives on this...

That's the problem with the media...you just don't have control over how they process all the taping they do...that's why I'm typically not a fan of doing these things, but it turned out pretty good i think

It did turn out very well!

I loved that they had you fry an egg at the end, it looked yummy! I know what I'll be having for breakfast.
