Thanks everyone for your kind words.
Having BYC friends to send you comforting words in a sad time really does help and mean a lot to me. Thank you all.
Steffanie, I'm definitely going to be planting something where I buried Edmund, I just have to figure out what!
Renee, I did consider for a moment if it could have been a two legged predator that got him but our backyard is pretty secure, the intruder would of had to come into our property from the creek to really be unnoticed. I just can't imagine someone going to the trouble.
Daphne, how is the broody momma in Berkeley doing???
Luke, have you spoke with Bridget yet today?
On a bit of a lighter note, I will be purchasing another Orpington from Bamachicken, she has a four month old splash cockerel who is
99.5% English in breeding. My Edmund was only 50%, so this will actually help my breeding program immensely. Not only will getting the cockerel from Bama promote biodiversity within my flock but the infusion of pure English blood will significantly help with type and confirmation to the SOP.
With this weird twist of fate the chicks produced by my birds will be 75% English in heritage, there should also be more vigor and better productivity produced within the future generations of chicks as well because of the genetic outcross to another line.
Oh and I will be setting a dozen Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs tonight, my girls are
finally laying somewhat better!
