BBR Cubalaya genetics question

You may be letting one judge get to you too much.

I pay very little attention to most judges. Most have no idea what an Oriental is or how it is suppose to look. The few I would trust would include:

Jim Sallee
Walt
Danny P.
Sam B.
Dave W.

Let Zach look at your birds in person and tell you what you need: or Walt.

Walt was the one who dinged me. I really like Walt, but he gave me the impression that da,y that he was more interested in the Marans group than anything else. He spent a lot of time judging them and talking to the owners gathered around. I agree that my hen was not correctly colored, she is too dark, but felt that a better explanation then she doesn't look like the picture was warranted. My first show with my BBRs so I was excited to have some there. There were 11 araucana and 5 of them were mine. It was a small show and I had higher expectations than I should have. I realize this and that is why I am trying to get a real life picture on what I possibly should be working towards.

I have my own idea about what I like and I guess I should just work with that and show as I can.

Part of the issue with Araucana is you can't show a bird unless it is tufted, so you have all the issues that other breeders of breeds have but then you have to produce a tufted bird with nice even tufts which happens in about 1 out of 1000. Out of 500 chicks I hatched in the BBR color last year 3 are close to correctly colored, but none have tufts, so they are breeders which will help with next years hatches
