Its the light. We had a wonderful sunny day.

Spots of sunlight coming through the trees. Here you can see the difference in colouring by the light on Kraai.

Today the nasty tomcat came along and chased the chickens. This time I witnessed the panic.

The tomcat a few days ago.

One chicken ended up at the other side of the small stream in the greenery of the municipality. It was Janice, one of the black bantams that wonders off more often.

We could hear her but the blackberries are so dense over that we couldn’t see her or go after her. I was afraid she had trouble coming back. But she finally did after about 1.5 hour.

Janice is the one with the red comb. She has a few brown feathers on her shoulders.

That cat is very annoying.

;) I’m not sorry for the nasty tomcat but sorry my chickens.

Today I let the chickens free range from 3-5 pm. Didnt see the cat. Maybe the owners lock him up when they are away from home (during office working hours).
Still no idea where he might come from ?
If he always turn up at around the same time he probably isn't let out all the time. My cats who can come and go as they please are very random as to when they will go wherever !

Im not certain but I think he doesnt live in our neighbourhood, but one nearby. There are several apartments and houses with smaller gardens nearby in the next neighbourhood. I saw this cat at the bridge where a ditch borders the two neighbourhoods.

Many people keep their cats inside at night or when they are away from home. (Like I do with my chickens ;) ).
It sure would explain why I’ve seen him often in the weekend and after working/office hours.

I didn’t mean I was sorry for the cat! lol I’m sorry that you and your chickens are having to put up with him. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, I think you are a superb chicken keeper and would never want to sound critical!

I had to read it twice because translated to my language it could also mean : I pity the cat. But of course I knew this was awkward and I understood your intention perfectly. I added the ;) to let you know it was not serious.

I let the chickens free range in the afternoon again. Just locked them in the run, in case the tomcat comes by again. I always scatter a few handfuls of grain to lure them inside.

The juveniles are not always welcome to the grain-party in the run. Katrientje was too keen to peck the scattered grains to stand guard. This time is was only Kraai who was standing in front of the door, to keep the juveniles out.

Silly behaviour (pecking order).
