Beak trimming

I am looking at ordering chicks from Mt. Healthy and they offer beak trimming, but is it necessary? I'm only getting 5 or 6 chicks.

Not necessary, especially in a flock that small - I wouldn’t if I were you.

It's only for birds in cramped, underfed and poor conditions so they don't cannibalize each other. As long as your birds have enough space, good feed and clean, they don't need it.

"Trimming" is a nice way to say debeaking - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debeaking The damage done is meant to be permanent and birds can be left unable to eat properly and groom properly.
