hey guys!
I had a bit of a scary ordeal today and hoping I can get some advice!

So today I was out in the coop at 5 AM and I was working on chores. Towards seven o'clock i was walking out of the coop, all of my birds were out foraging in the woods, I see a bear about 5-10 yards away from me. Of course I dropped dead in my tracks and quickly started making noise and making myself really big. He kind of walked away without doing too much. I'm just worried that he got a whiff of the birds and is gonna come back tonight or soon. What do I do?!?!?!

Electric fencing is a good idea. Is your coop big and secure enough to keep a bear out? Maybe you could lock your chickens in until you can get some supplies.

People really should add a generic location in their posts because we are still unsure what flavor of bear that is stalking your chickens. I will guess that it is a black bear and believe it or not that is the most dangerous kind of bear when it comes to a predatory (as opposed to a defensive attack) on humans. Grizzly or Brown Bears almost exclusively kill middle aged men who stumble upon them, often a sow bear with young. while black bears more often kill women, children, or the aged. IOW Picking targets of opportunity. Be careful.
