Beautiful peahen showed up at my farm this past weekend - what can you tell me about her?

She is beautiful and looks silver to me, i have never owned a silver or seen one in person but that is what color i would call her, she is neat looking for sure.

Is she blind in one eye or is that the coloring making it look like she is missing an eye?
Does she have any hint of iridescent color like blue or green,or purple?

Are we talking silver as in "silver pied" or are we talking silver as in "opal"?

I would definitely say it looks silver pied of some sort. The "lavender" color you may be seeing may be from dirt.

If you're going to put an advert up, say you found a "peacock" and see who calls about a peahen thinking you don't know the difference. If they can't tell you what color she is, then they didn't lose her or don't deserve her. She's beautiful.

Google picture of a silver pied hen:

Still could be a silver pied yearling male, can't see the covelets in any of the photos.

zazouse, gosh, I have no idea if she's blind in an eye. I haven't been able to get that close to her...assuming "her" at this point. She does look very much like that pic you found, Kedreeva, but her legs are more slate colored than yellowish. I don't know how much this means in peafowl, I know much more about chickens.

I'll get the ad posted and I'll try to look more closely for eye issues. Thanks so much, guys!

I would just say bird found--they would have to tell you what kind of bird. There aren't tons of colors and someone could guess right--I don't know--I'd hate to see anyone but true owner get her. She is beautiful. I wonder if she is nesting?

Not sure the leg color means much honestly. Most peafowl have grey legs, but you can see a flesh color tint to them in some lights. I would assume that pic just had strange lighting if I had to make a guess. Where in Michigan are you? Curious to see if you're anywhere nearby, I know there are a lot of people that have at least one pea around me, and there's a guy just over the... I think Ohio border, might be Indiana, I can't remember, that has a lot of mutations. People are probably getting ready for the next swap (july 9th) so it's possible a penned bird escaped.

This is my Silver Pied hen

This is her Silver Pied son as a yearling

Please excuse the mud on them, the pics were taken last year when everything was a soggy mess. I will say that as a two year old, the SP male doesn't look that much different. He is starting to get a hint of the green/gold on his back, if he is like his dad he will color out more this fall. And hopefully finally get a train...

Beautiful pics. Frosty, I didn't know that you had peas. ;)

WOW - yes, those birds are just beautiful, Frosty! Thanks so much for posting them!

Good point, ChickSlick - very good idea!

Kedreeva, PMing you.

You didn't know I have them? I got the parents almost 4 years ago. They are great stress relief to watch, I always have to smile. The baby was hatched under a chicken hen and wasn't handled much, the 'mom' was a ferocious protector. I wouldn't mind having one like the OP found show up here! The only pea I know of anyone finding in our area was... mine. They got loose in a storm, I was really grateful to get them back!
