When she starts to go into labor, take out all the cloth bedding and lay down a thick mat of newspaper. As papers are soiled with fluid you can remove layers. Then once she is done you can put in more cloth bedding.
It is important the bedding is such that the puppies can't burrow under it or get tangled in it.
This time of year a heat source is also important the first week or so. I use a heating pad on low with several layers of blankets on top of it.
For the first week or so, I also remove the puppies to a laundry basket that has a heating pad in one end on the bottom covered by several layers of toweling or blankets. This gives the mom a chance to stretch out and really relax while the puppies are sleeping, and also keeps them warm.
When I am using a heat source like a heating pad I like to make sure it is not only well covered, but also to make it only a part of the puppy area, so they can come to the heat, or not, as they prefer. Some puppies like it hotter than others.
