We've gotten her checked, last week and again this am. she's doing fine, puppies are in position. I guess she just took at the 3rd later breeding . . . here are some shots from tonight ...

Her temp is FINALLY in the 98's.. this past week shes gone from 100.3 down to 99.4 she has been between 98.3 - 98.8 all evening- our house is hot and is just now cooling down so I venture to guess she'll dip to 97 and have them this evening. I gave up trying to keep her area neat and tidy- its a mess of fluff and stuffing. I washed a 2nd blanket and some extra sheets so i figured I'd change them out and freshen the pen up after she births.

Poor Momma loops tired and just *done.* Can't wait to see the update with birth and puppy details!

Best wishes for an easy labor (tonight!).

It could have been any of the breedings. Sperm can live for quite some time in a body if the conditions are right waiting for the egg/eggs to release. I got pregnant with my 4th child by doing the deed *10* days before I ovulated. I think that's how I finally got a girl. lol So you can't go by the breeding date, the due date is based on the ovulation date, which could be up to a week (or very rarely even longer than that) after breeding. I wouldn't worry about her too much. Pit bulls don't tend to have the birthing problems some other bully breeds have. She's beautiful, btw. pits are one of my favorite breeds. We always ended up w/ rescue pits when I was a kid (they just kinda showed up, and we couldn't take them to the shelter b/c the shelter in our town automatically euthanized pits.

) They're great family dogs.

When she starts to go into labor, take out all the cloth bedding and lay down a thick mat of newspaper. As papers are soiled with fluid you can remove layers. Then once she is done you can put in more cloth bedding.

It is important the bedding is such that the puppies can't burrow under it or get tangled in it.

This time of year a heat source is also important the first week or so. I use a heating pad on low with several layers of blankets on top of it.

For the first week or so, I also remove the puppies to a laundry basket that has a heating pad in one end on the bottom covered by several layers of toweling or blankets. This gives the mom a chance to stretch out and really relax while the puppies are sleeping, and also keeps them warm.

When I am using a heat source like a heating pad I like to make sure it is not only well covered, but also to make it only a part of the puppy area, so they can come to the heat, or not, as they prefer. Some puppies like it hotter than others.
