Bees are dumb

Ok, I have a fountain with several tiers. This is where the majority of the bees go. So, on the top tier, which is the smallest "cup", I will fill it with various sized rocks so that the cup is full, but has "nooks and crannies" where bees can land and get a drink rather than crawling down the side of one of the larger cups.

We shall see if they take advantage of my efforts, or continue on their suicide missions. I shall take a pic and report back! I know you are all on the edge of your seats!

REPORT:

The stick did nothing. The bees ignored it. I found two drown victims this morning in the bird bath. They seem to fare better in the running fountain...maybe because it splashes water and they can walk along and take a sip without the steep slope down to the water's edge. Wasps are still navigating it like champs.

Here is a pic of the bounty of fake flowers the bees couldn't get the hang of. Still find one or two buzzing around occasionally, but maybe word has gotten around (perhaps written on the bee restroom wall) that these flowers are just a tease: all show, no go.

Here is the deathtrap:

Here is the fountain they prefer (moving, splashing water):

And here is a survivor:

Aye, word actually will get around about your fake flowers due to the dances bees do to help their hive find honey. But, I wouldn't worry too much about a few bees drowning in the context of extinction. The hive will survive that and divide as usual. It's other factors that are wiping them out.
