Belgian Bearded Mille Fleur d'Uccles? PICS pg 7

Like I said, I am pretty sure the smaller spots are more desired, I'm not sure what the standard is. As far as beard and muffs though, your whiter one has a better beard than the darker one does.

I've looked for any standard on the coloring of mille fleurs, and I can't find any. I just know that I've seen more people selling 'show quality' that have had birds with less white on them.

Hopefully someone that shows these pretty little birds will come along with more info

Amber, the darker one is very good at getting her beard in the water, but I think you are right.

And I find the darker colour with smaller spots more appealing but wasn't sure if that was better in terms of desired colouring. Would love to hear more esp from someone who shows these darlings.

Okay, not my breed or variety (although I do like both--we used to have a mille fleur d'uccle--she was quite a character!)

As mille fleur (and mottled) birds age, they get whiter with each molt. If Pearl is a pullet, she has too much white. If Amber is a hen, she doesn't have enough. As I said, not a variety I am as familiar with as I am with those I breed, so someone who breeds mille fleur may be able to give a better opinion.

In general, the distinctness of a pattern is more important than the shade or size of the various portions. There can be exceptions, (and if one were referring to cuckoo, a defining trait would be its lack of distinctness).

ive done some research and they have ok color i just started with my d'uccles but they look like they are one the hen/pullet "border line" the one with less white is better than the one with more white because like Sonoran said they will molt out more mottled every time so i would say the darker one would be of better color wise but a full body pic would show more of the body conformation to inspect the full bird

*and i think color wise the more distinct the coloring the better kind of like barring on a BR the more defined the better

*and booted bantams have NO beards or muffs and d'uccles no matter the variety HAVE muffs and beards no matter how small or large!

just trying to hit all of the points

Shelly and Kitty....I still need 2 roos. This thread has been very informative but rather deep for little birds I consider more as "yard ornaments" and pets.
I was once asked to judge a horse show but told the commitee I would not be a good choice because I always choose the "Prettiest" one!

Frankly, I like a lot of spots on my birds. I think Pearl is very pretty. Just remember to never ask me to do any poultry judging.

So I have a question: Is there a place for the d'uccle bantam? Beardless and smooth cheeked? I have both right now and bought them from the same seller. ( My hens that is). Is it possible that this a result of cross breeding? And is this acceptable or not?
Or maybe there are a bunch of chick lovers like me that just like "pretty" birds.
