Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

Yes, the boys are all lighter than the girls. :) Gotta love that auto-sexing! I did have an experience early on when a boy started to get darker feathers coming in. They have come in lighter in time. Was a bit confused for a little while. He was certainly light gray at a day old & stood out from the other girls.

29 days old & out free ranging today. Yay!!! My dogs are out with them keeping an eye out. The older group is just over a month older than my younger ones.

Looks like these two are having a serious discussion.
Congrats on your new chick!

Thanks oldchick! Yeah, that was just before they rose up at each other. Love watching those mock fights. They grow up so fast!

Just had another peek at my broody. I asked her if I could see her baby & she lifted herself up enough that I could see a little pullet. Wish I had my camera ready. The wee one was fast asleep. I can't wait for the rest to hatch!

Just got home from shopping. One broody has hatched a chick already on day 20! Yahoo! I heard chirping, but momma won't let me see yet. Can't wait to see one!

Oh I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to see pictures!!!

What healthy looking birds!

I happened on this breed today when Googling Belgian chickens...I found out a few months ago I am part Belgian and thought to honor that I'd get a Belgian chicken. :D It doesn't look like they are very available here.

The next best thing will be watching yours grow!

Shellz...so glad to find this thread and get an update on your Malines. We conversed last year and I was so pleased you were getting started. They will be magnificent! Hope you get a good hatch under the broodies.
I still like the Golden Cuckoo Malines with the turkey heads and will continue to look for them.

What a great way to honor your heritage! Sadly, Malines are not available in the U.S. Yet ;) Stay tuned.....

Glad you found it too! I've been told the turkey heads exist here in Ontario as well. I'm enjoying my Malines thoroughly! I have a great start with some magnificent looking birds & can't wait to see the new chicks hatching right now! I've heard chirps from under another broody this morning. As its cool this morning, I'm patiently waiting for a peek at them. ;)
