When everything costs a dollar, it's easy to keep on clickin'!

I've been letting Bella "borrow" my Putifresh boxes--it makes her feel all grown up.

You aren't kidding. I tried to restrain myself on my first order and ended up placing a second order right away!

wow, very affordable. Im going to have to look into getting one for my son. He doesnt have much of an appetite due to medication. I keep thinking if I can make it visually appealing maybe he will eat more than a hard boiled egg and juice. Thanks for all the great ideas.

Have you all seen the contest on Ichiban Kan? They are still closed but expect to open sometime this week, trouble with their credit card company...anyway, they are having a contest for you all to show off how you pack your lunch boxes and the prizes are nice!

Why they are closed is explained at this site also. They have added lots of new items..when we get to order them... You gals do an awesome job filling those boxes so I hope to see your entries! I also expect a BYC'er to win!!

well, i've been having to get up 30 min earlier every morning to make my son a bento lunch. it's quite a pain since mornings are tough, with feeding all the chickens, guineas, baby chicks, horses, cows, dogs, cats and tending to the sick chickens with their meds then putting myself together to take my son to school then off to work. sigh....

but

i found out that he (my 6 y.o.) only gets 30 min for lunch. part of that is standing in line getting his lunch...which is CRAZY. he can't eat his dinner in less than 30 min let alone, how do they expect him to buy a hot lunch, eat and socialize with his friends!

he's small and skinny as it is. i don't need him missing out on lunch. so i've decided to make him bento's so he can sit down faster and eat.

last night, i asked him about the bento's i've been making him and he took a big breath and said to me, i love them so much mommy. that was so nice. he also asked me to make more designs on the rice.

i went to target last week and they had a bunch of stuff in their $1 bins which i've been using for his bento.

they had the silicon cupcake thingies, 5 in a pack for $1 in colors of blue, red, yellow and pink. i thought that was a GREAT buy. they also had paper punchers in shapes of an apple, star, pumpkin and a maple leaf. each one a $1. i've used them on the "nori" and they cut the seaweed fine. they also had paper cupcake liners with thanksgiving and halloween themes for a $1.

now if only ichibankan can get their website back up, i'll be set.

I have to share my story:

When my son started school I put always put a note in his lunchbox. Starting in preschool with pictographs drawn on his napkin (before he could read). I included notes on his napkins in his lunch until he went to middle school (third grade) and he got 'too old" for notes.

When my daughter started preschool I was all ready to carry on the tradition.... The first day I packed her lunch and drew a message on her napkin. The second morning she walked into the kitchen as I was putting the note in her lunchbox. She slapped her hand to her forehead and exclaimed: "Not AGAIN!"

So that ended that. She was 4 years old at the time.

big sigh here...
