Bento Box Fever!

I wound up not getting Tenmari this time around (I had a whole set in my shopping cart and then deleted it), until I CAN find out what they're made of. I DO know that any of the Lube Sheep lines (Putifresh, Clickety-Click, I can't recall what else) are made of the "better" plastics--PP or PET.

Hey, I use those, and I'm not exactly petite. The Putifresh boxes are more for grownups, but I can't see that they hold any more than the Clickety-Click ones. I could NOT pass up a Putifresh set when I read the Japanglish text:

This line, which includes Clickety Click, is safe plastics. I do wash them in the top rack of the dishwasher, but I do not heat them in the microwave, or fill them with hot food.

Thanks for your thoughts on this everyone. I'm a bit on the leery side of anything made in China if the purpose is to hold food. You are correct, Menageriemama, that it's the clear, hard plastics that are the concern when it comes to the recycle numbers. And, while the opaque plastics haven't been a concern in that regard, there have been the issues of lead being found in some of the Chinese made toys. That's the part I'm concerned about with the colored boxes. I wasn't very clear in my question the first time. Sorry.

As far as I can tell from the Ichibankan website, the Natural Lunch and the Putifresh are made in Japan. The Tenmari, Clickety Click, and Simple Modern are all made in China.

Chances are that they're safe, but I just wish I knew for sure.

Being Asian and in Asian stores a lot... there are some even worse translations found on "cute" and common items...

I myself prefer glass cups and containers all around despite their breaking potential when dropped. All plastics be it "safe" or not are synthesized into their respective polymers, meaning that they all started with some type of solvent.

I got the apple Putifresh one for myself, as well as all the accessories for it. They were out of stock on the chopsticks when I ordered but had them tonight so I'm getting them in order #2!!

I use glass refrigerator dishes from the 50s for left overs a lot. I collect them whenever I can find them. But for a 6 year old carrying lunches you're sure right about the breakage factor!

We are still kicking ourselves for not taking notes on some of the translations on the menu in a restaurant we ate it in Kaluga, Russia. Our translator had to translate the translations on some items. It was a very small restaurant and the owner himself came out to meet the Americans. He was so proud to have English on his menu. We enjoyed it very much but made sure not to hurt his feelings. At any rate the food was very tasty so what did it matter?

I can't wait to see them for myself. I know I will probably want one too, and I am retired and do not work outside the house anymore. ha ha
