Best brown egg layer...

My golden comet is laying an egg a day for me. Hasn't skipped a singe day since she started going on a month now. She started at 21 weeks. Besides, she has the best personality of all my girls!

I don't know how your weather would affect it but for us we have a White Rock (lays brown egg) and since she started laying a few months ago she's been consistent and gives large or extra large brown eggs every day.

She's also very sweet and gentle.

Hope it helps...

Moyer's Hatchery in Quakertown PA sells a "brown egg layer" which is a cross between a white leghorn and a RIR. These copper colored beauties are a joy to own. Excellent eggs and great personalities. Ours roam free durning the day and come running when they hear the back door open (hoping for Wheaties, no doubt...)

That cross is what I believe are called the ISA Browns, or sex-link birds. Great layers, good personality, fine looking hens. Only good for two years laying though. My next birds I think I will get a "dual purpose bird" like a RIR. I understand they continue to lay for many years, although not as often as the ISA Browns do initially.

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Marans, Welsummers, Black Jersey Giants.
Buff Orpingtons are at the TOP of the list, I'd go with the BO!!! They're so friendly lay alot and go broody quite offten!!!

I say go wit hthe Barred Rock or Wellsummer! They are both BEAUTIFUL birds! If you want rich looking dark brown eggs then go wit hthe Wellie but if you want a garenteed VERY sweet hen, go wit hthe BR

I love how old posts get picked back up. LOL But since it did, I have to sell the Delawares. Beautiful, sweet, funny and smart and honestly lay like crazy. Probably the best thing about these girls is that they lay some of the biggest chicken eggs I've ever seen!
