Best color for coop interior?

Will do them cozy and with curtains.

Thank you, this brought a smile. (and I nearly spit out my coffee).

My walls are unpainted inside - but they are hardie board. The outside was painted barn red (the cheap, 5 gal at a time, Lowes "Fence and Barn" stuff) and it made a marked difference in the heat inside the coop. If I had to do it again, both the coop and the barn would be Killz White with barn red trim, not barn red with Killz white trim.

Live and learn - I'll fix it next decade when it needs a refresh.

Mine didn't like the curtains, long ago, so I gave up on them.

Seriously??? You two are a howl.

I've two more months to darker my boxes further - they are located on the side of the house, but the design allows a lot of light in indirectly, and the fold down door on the outside allows in more light than I'd prefer around the edges. "No curtains" - got it. Maybe I'll trim out the edge of the door with some flashing, and paint the insides something darker than raw concrete

I "painted" the interior of my coop white using whitewash; very cheap, comes in a power form, mix it up and go. This was the standard for inside barns etc. back in the day. I painted the entrances of my nest box bright high gloss red, love the contrast and I like to believe that the ladies do as well.

The inside of our coop is white stain but I painted the nest boxes a warm grey.
All paint we had left over from previous projects. We added weather stripping around e wet door and window to reduce the chance of any light peaking through - looks dark and cozy from any any angle and light/draft free.

Frankly, I was a little surprised to see curtains in chicken coops back when we began researching the build. Growing up, all my grandparents had chickens and I don’t recall there being any curtains in those coops  ...

I didn’t know if there was some research suggesting an advantage to nest box drapery or if it was more an attempt at cutification. The idea appeals to me at least a little because I‘m a quilter, and quilters have this thing called a “stash”, and any opportunity to use some fabric should be acted upon.

Wow, the light in there is beautiful. I really like the nesting boxes and obviously, the ladies do, too!
