best egg layers of brown eggs ??

I can vouch for the red sex links, some of ours even lay terra cotta colored eggs!!!

We have a young flock so those that have begun laying have done so every day regardless of breed or hybrid. The hybrids (RSL) started laying a couple of wks earlier than the standard full breeds we have and if you light the henhouse for a few hrs. per 24 hr. period (we use a timer) they'll lay consisently over the winter. Some have mentioned the down side of hybrids is that they can burn out in 2-3 yrs, ours are almost 5 mos. old so I can't verify that. I've heard that Golden Comets (another hybrid) are terrefic brown egg layers, too. Hope you find the right ones for your needs!

I've heard sexlinks are great.....I have Austrolorps and have been much happier than expected with them.

Keep in mind that if you buy sexlinks, they are great for eggs but do not breed true (so i am told). If you plan on hatching your own 2nd generation.....think again before buying them. You may want to purchase them or stick with one that breeds true. The only other alternative is to buy the parents to create your own sexlinks.

I have golden comets and they have been great layers. Very friendly also. 19 layers with 17-18 eggs a day, double yolks a few days each week. These were born and bought in Februrary 2009.

We have 4 Rhode Island Reds and 3 Barred Rocks. They started laying at 21 weeks (Labor Day). All 7 were laying within the same week and have consistently laid 7 eggs daily since then. In the first few weeks we were getting double yokers and 3 times we got 8 eggs. I don't know how we got 8, but we did?

Our gals are super friendly too, which for us is a plus.

Those australorps are awesome. I've read in several places that an australorp hen has the record for egg laying at 364 eggs in 365 days. Not too shabby, eh?

everyone of my gold comets lay almost every day, maybe once a week will one miss.as the daylight hours shorten and the temp start to drop here in western NC they may slack a bit.I wouldn,t mind them taking a bit of a rest during winter but they are very dependable layers,

By FAR my Red Star (Red Sex-link) She lays the biggest, dark brown egg every morning since she started to lay about a month ago. She ROCKS!!!
