best egg layers of brown eggs ??

Anyone have a breakdown of the crosses used for red and black sexliinks? I'm finding conflicting info on the Internet about the breeding of golden comets, ISA Browns, cinnamon queens, etc...

I also love my red sexlinks, but my barred rocks lay bigger, browner eggs, just as frequently and they're beautiful to boot!

I have what are called golden comets, or buff comets or sometimes buff mutts. They are the earliest and most consistent of mine. I also have Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, and Black Austrolorpes. The RIR and Black Aussies are reputed to be really good wintertime layers, but all are supposed to be good all year. Have no experience yet tho as mine are only 5 1/2 months old. Am getting 10 eggs daily and buffs are leading the pack with 6 of the 7 producing. They were earliest beginning to lay at 4 months in early Oct.

I would get 25 barred rocks, 25 australorps, 25 sex links (black or red) and 25 Rhode island reds.

I track my girl's output. I don't count molting time. They go back on the clock when they're done molting and start laying again.

Red Stars 98%
Black Stars 97%
NH Reds 93%
RIRs 88%
Australorps 82%
B Rocks 75%
B Orpington 67%
S Sussex 67%

These are for 2008-2009. I thought the Barred Rocks would be better, but they were slow in the winter. Conversely, I was very surprised by the NH Reds, who laid right through the winter like it wasn't even there. Australorps were mixed in cold weather/reduced light. Some didn't skip a beat, whereas others stopped laying altogether.

I did think about getting redstars......or red sex links. I knew that because they were half RIR and half white LH that they would lay a brown egg, but be more productive and look mostly like a RIR with white specks, but I wasn't planning on just one generation so I went with RIR. RIR is good and will take care of a family's needs, but nothing can beat the LH's so I can understand people being happy with the redstars.

Someone further up the thread asked what breeds make up sex-links.

So far as I know:

Red Star: RIR Rooster + Delaware hen (not LH)
Black Star: RIR Rooster + Barred Rock Hen
Some sites say that a NH Red Rooster is interchangeable with the RIR.

Forgot what the name is for the RIR rooster and the NH Red hen. Production Red? Spozed to be the best brown layer. Like to try that as I've had really good luck w/NH Reds.
What's a Golden Comet or a Cherry Egger? I've heard that Cherry Eggers simply ignore reduced light and cold weather and still produce 6-7 eggs.wk. Both my red & black stars do that anyways.
Also, is a California White a hybrid?

RIRed X NH= Production Red(which is what a lot of hatcheries sell as a RIRed or hatchery red they may be referred to.

Theres more crosses with Leghorns but that gets into the white egglaying crosses.

Anyway maybe that will give you something to go on.
