Best idea to keep my chickens safe

I am of the mind that a Coyote will pretty much go where it wants when it wants. This last summer, just after my girls had arrived, and were still cooped, I came home from the store, walked around the side of the house, and came face to face with a coyote. I could tell it had been here for a while because my game chickens had all taken to the trees. The laying pullets were huddled together in the center of their coop. Coyote turned and beat feet toward the back of the property while I ran to the house and let the dogs out. Coyote was, of course, well out of the property before the dogs got to the back of the property. That's the last I saw of it. Until then, she had been in and out several times. She had even managed to snatch one of my hen turkeys.

Coyotes only go where humans allow them to go. There are three options.

option 1: Exclude your fowl from the coyote.

option 2: Exclude the coyotes from your fowl in what ever manner you deem best.

option 3: Feed your fowl to the coyotes, hopefully as slowly as possible.

option 4: feed the coyote to the chooks.

I often keep dead carcasses for a few days until maggots infest them and then give it to the chooks, they GO TOTALLY BESERK FOR MAGGOTS. They love them. Perfect high protien love food AND SO EASY TO PREPARE. Get something dead, wait, serve. Trap the coyote if you are allowed and serve it up as maggots. a container with holes in the bottom for the maggots to fall out is often used for this. Fishermen often put carcasses in trees overhanging the water a few days before fishing so they will have a perfect fishing day.

couple of strands of poly wire (electric fence) cheap, easy. done.

We just put little black fences up(like the type found at home depot to put a little fence around your garden/keep out dogs)directly against the hardware cloth of the coop to provide extra protection against big animals. It helps me with peace of mind. Just look up black fence home depot in google images to get the idea.
