Best place for a window?

Following. We put ours where the roosts will be, but my chicks aren't in the house yet. I also made sure to leave another wall that we could move the roosts to if needed.

I thought the last time around with chickens I was told not to put the window behind the roost, but I cannot remember why! Hoping someone will answer for us both!!

I have good size windows on the south side of the building. You have cold winters like we do and the winter sun is really important for warming the building. Most of the roosts that the chickens and guineas sleep on are on the north side but there is also a roost under the big window so they can look out and soak in that winter sun. ;)

I've often read that chickens need ventilation but a draft can kill them. :hmm I suppose if the window is open the draft might not be good for them. In the summer when it's hot a few of my birds will sleep on the roost in front of the window. But the rest of the year they sleep on roosts away from the window. It's good if they can have a choice in where to sleep.

We have windows on all sides ,long skinny ones that open. We hardly open the west side because that’s the cold side and it’s often really windy. The window by their roosting bar we covered in hardware clothe because they pecked at it all the time

I have windows on 3 sides of the coop (2 each on the long sides, 1 on the shorter side). With all of them open it gets a little nice cross breeze but doesn't get drafty. Only side without a window faces the prevailing winds, and I put the roosts there so I don't have to worry about a draft hitting the roost bars.
