) I too just started raising chicks for food, as of February actually. I haven't got to the harvesting part yet, but I've been doing lots of research on this as well. Personally I would go with the slitting method, the hatchet is too violent for me. Have you seen food inc? One of the guys that says how bad the factory method is, uses the cones and the slitting method. He says even with him harvesting his chickens in the open air of his porch, they still tested healthier against the factory chickens. Once my chickens are big enough to harvest, I will never eat a store bought chicken again.
