BEWARE - HOMEOWNERS INS WILL DROP YOU NOW IF YOU HAVE A HOBBY FARM!

We had a tramp that the previous owners left in the yard. Kids saw it and that was that. The doctor says tramp injuries are the most common injury in emergency rooms. Guess that's why rates are higher for them.

We lucked out on our tramp. One of my teenagers friends was jumping on it and it tore. Bummer.

Mine didnt care if I had chickens but I can not have certain breeds of dogs (shepherds, rotts, dobs, and mixed breed in between them) and a bad roof. We had to go get another insurance for a year because we bought the house with bad roof and needed to replace it. Finally when we got it replaced, our Farmers Insurance immediately accepted us and got discounts in house and cars. He is a nice friendly guy!

my moms insurance company threatened to drop her after 30 PLUS YEARS because there was no vinyl siding on the BACK of the barn. It had been that way for 15 years.

As far as the dog goes, it is a "they dont ask. They dont tell" type of thing. (She has an AmStaff.)

Our home insurance carrier has never even sent an agent here to our place. And as long as nothing major ever happens to the house. I never plan on drawing attention to the house. Or the dog. Or the chickens.

I keep the snow shoveled and the ice melt is laid down THICK on stairs and sidewalk.. thank you very much.

Is that legal???? OMG that would so piss me off!!!

We've been dropped because "The house was too ugly".

It was a fixer and they had covered it for years. When we bought it, they dropped it. That started years of insurance nightmares.

They either wouldn't cover us because we didn't have a fire hydrant near by or...

Can't remember the name but the one that is for farmers - they kept raising the fees every 6 months or so until we couldn't afford it.

Another cancelled us because we had chimneys and a woodstove. We removed the woodstove but they wanted us to take out the fireplace we never used. That would have been a HUGE undertaking.

Finally, our neighbor's garage burned down and we asked who covered them. The same company that said the house was too ugly to cover covered us without asking anything.

My sister lost her home in November to fire - it's been a nightmare for them to get the money needed to replace the house.

A neighbor had two fires. The first, the house was fixed quickly but the insurance company dragged their feet so much after the 2nd fire that she ended up losing the house. She couldn't afford to pay rent and the house payment and she needed someplace to put her kids.

Hate Insurance companies.

When we sold my father's home to settle his estate the new buyers couldn't get insurance. We talked to the company that my DF had all those years and they said "Sure, no problem, we covered it for 25 years and stand by the fact that it is a solid insurable home".

Dh's parents were told that a door they had never used and was nailed shut needed steps and a landing. After they explained it was non functional the insurance made no further issue.

We put in a pond. Insurance said to post our property with no trespassing, private property signs.

We have no fireplace, no "vicious" dogs or any claims for the past 12 years we have had coverage.

We have four horses that are pets. We do not let strangers ride our horses nor do we board or anything out of the norm that a regular horse owner would do.

I am getting quotes now from Farm Bureau and Grange Ins.
