They were a nice bunch. Unfortunately with poultry of any species you need to keep the male population down. We butcher as necessary. We had 3 drakes but decided that was too many.

I do think my muscovy are beautiful. I have a couple of buffs and blues. My old lines would throw a lot of different colors. When I lost the last drake out of those we replaced him with a blue one. The drakes resemble him a lot. He went because he was attacking my roosters repeatedly.

I don't mind the claws because I seldom handle mine. I like that they roost too.
I like the roosting, but we had to clip wings because they were getting close to landing on cars and trucks...couldn’t risk it. I handle my birds a lot....I have a lot of scars to prove it. One very long one down my leg, when I was trying to get a good picture of them all eating from my lap...how dumb am I?!

I'm only trying to help..:idunno
Ask Kayla if she learned from her mistakes? She got over whelmed...🙄😕
Don’t mean to butt in...I got overwhelmed with ducks, and now have learned from mistakes. And, as for the rooster ratio...if it were me, I would consider penning them separate until the new birds are old enough if you intend to keep them both for all the hens. If the cockerel/roosters aren’t fighting yet...they will, and the hens will pay the price. I’m only saying this because I have hens who have bare backs and are beaten up from a rooster that needed culled. He’s gone now. If the hens are stressed over roosters...they won’t lay. They can get sick too. I don’t mean to be nosy...I’m just telling you my experience.

I got my peeps.
