Big news in TEXAS this week!

Pics
Does anyone have any updates on this subject? All that seems to be coming from this Chicken Bill is a bunch of Bovine Excrement from the politicians in Texas. There are so many excellent reasons for passage of this bill, sustaining the rights of the people to raise their own food, rights of the people to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, the ability to educate the youth on farming, and so much more, I cannot believe that the Governor and those in Austin are just being so ignorant and blind to this. There is a lot more to SB 1620 at stake then just chickens, and they seem to be ignoring it. I can't begin to say how disheartened I am about this.

I want them too but right now they are working on bigger issues. You can watch the senate live. They just wrapped up a few minutes ago and will be back in the morning at 10. Dan Patrick said it would be another long day.

As bad as I want chickens too it would be insulting to the state of Texas if the senators were discussing backyard chickens in the first few days of the special session rather then properly tax, help for special needs children etc

Hopefully it will have time to get in when they start talking about the tree bill and other less important issues. All we can do is keep calling both Van Taylor's offices and the governor I haven't had a chance to call for an update. Has anybody called lately?

There was suppose to be more issues thet Governor Abbott added to the special session but I couldn't find it anywhere. Our chicken bill could be on it.

Thanks for staying updated on this, y'all! Hopefully this bill gets through!

I called my reps office a few months ago and he was totally on board, which was a huge surprise coming from a rep of a fairly uppity neighborhood. Props to Rep Miller for responding with a personal letter!

UPDATE - NEW INFORMATION AS OF 7/25/17

SB 1620 is now known as SB 98
Senator Van Taylor has filed the bill for the special session. That was the first step. The bill was filed on 7/21/17
It now has to go to the committee and see what other item it can be attached to. Fingers crossed it makes it to the senate floor because it will pass with ease. It just has to get there. Hope we don't run out of time.

We can go to this page to keep updated.

I just added this bill to my alert list on that site.
Thanks for the updates.

If anyone wants to read SB 98....here is the link

If we get lucky and it makes it all the way, we can fill our coop on December 1, 2017
My only worry is the distance between the coop and a residence. When you live in a subdivision you don't have much room between houses and I wouldn't put it pass my city to take advantage of this to prevent us from having them in the backyard. Cluck!

In reading it it would seem hard to regulate you out of owning six chickens, it says they can make reasonable restrictions THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE AFFECT OF PROHIBITING....

(b)AAA municipality may impose reasonable governmental requirements on the raising or keeping of poultry in the boundaries of the municipality that do not have the effect of prohibiting the raising or keeping of six or fewer chickens, including:

I hope it passes for y'all
