That hen is one of his daughters. She just started laying a few weeks ago. Here's hoping we can get some red out of her and her sister! If I could hatch 6 more pullets I will then rotate Jody's buffs out of that pen and only breed him to his daughters. Then we should see some real color.

The one with the speckles on his chest is my favorite!

The boys are given Purina flock raiser, BOSS and a ration of scratch daily. Lots of fresh water. Also bugs, worms, mice etc. and grazing/ranging.

I knew we would not get red on the first try. Tim said the red would progress over the generations. Hopefully by F3 we should be at some color very close to his.

I do offer eggs when I am overflowing with them. The girls in his pen are powerhouse laying machines! I have Jody's buffs and Julies RIR in there.

Thanks, Sandy. He is certainly a 'project'. Slow going these days. When the weather was super cold and the days very short he went infertile on me. I cried and cried but never gave up hope on him. He is nice and fertile again!

Cool, keep us posted.BTW I believe my splash chick maybe a pullet and the blue one is looking more like a cockeral. That's fine with me since George my Blue Orp from has alot of brass in his hackle feathers and I hate to use him to breed more chicks.

I am going to posts photos of my Wheeler, Mosby's son. He is better looking than his daddy!!! I also have some test eggs of his girls in his pen going in the bator.

Those boys are gorgeous Ang!

I am thrilled for how this is progressing for you. Everything takes time and red is a super hard color to work with, but you're really doing well.

Keep at it!
