Pics
your pic of the blk birch looks just like mine. do yours breed already? my rootie is crowing grabbing the girls and dancing. hes about 4 mths old. hes trying just not there yet I think. plz help
did you mean me? If so, these are 6 months old. I usually don't collect eggs from them until they after 8 months old, but young cockerels will start practicing early, totally normal.

yes I mean u im new to this site and chickens. so any info will help me greatly. don't know how old my hens are. ive only had them a week. my rootie and other birds I got when they were a wk old. they all ended up to be roosters. I keep my birchen. then hens I have 4 and they all lay. I have blk astralorp, a blk sex link, a buff orphington and a possible golden nugget. the nugget looks like the orph but smaller and has white ear lobs. they all don't lay at the same time. I think I should be getting 4 eggs a day but only getting 2 at the most. they range from small to extra lg. so in reguards to ur comment I should see matting from my birchen around feb to march correct?

mating is not a seasonal thing with poultry, its a daily thing with most, its more a matter of when you want to start collecting eggs from the hens or want them to go broody and hatch themselves. By then, your boy should be old enough

I have the same roo but hes 4 mths old and has the same markings. so what is his real breed name im seeing all kinds like mahogany, siliver copper and so on. im new to this site and chickens. plz help thx

thanks how do I know when the hens go broody? and how do I know if they have actually matted?
haha, depending on the breed, you'll definitely know when they've gone broody when they start poofing themselves up, making a growling type noise and try to rip a finger off if you try to take the eggs from under them. Seriously tho, they will be sitting all the time, if they do happen to get off the nest to eat, they will poof themselves up and cluck. If you haven't seen them mating, then the only realy way to check is to crack some eggs open to see if they are fertile or just try to hatch some.

you'll have to have a certain number of posts first. I think its 15 to 20 or something like that. I am not 100% how to post from your Iphone to BYC directly, maybe someone can come along and help. I always load photos from my laptop.
